Giant panda Ya Ya arrived at her birthplace, the Beijing Zoo, on early Monday, May 29, 2023, after spending 20 years in the United States.
The beloved 23-year-old panda is now adapting to her new environment with fresh bamboo and bamboo shoots carefully prepared for her by her keepers.
After spending 20 years at the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee, Ya Ya had a short transit and month-long quarantine stay in Shanghai.
She has long suffered from skin disease due to parasite infections, which occasionally make her hair look thin and patchy. Her safety and health have been on the minds of many Chinese panda lovers.
Following her relocation to Beijing, Ya Ya is in a stable health condition. However, due to her old age, she will not meet the public but rather focus on rest and recovery.
