U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Monday that a historic $2.1 trillion spending cut was in the debt ceiling deal that aims to prevent a U.S. debt default.
U.S. President Joe Biden and McCarthy on Sunday signed off on an agreement to temporarily suspend the debt ceiling and cap some federal spending. The deal still needs passage by the U.S. Congress this week.
