A launch ceremony for the brand new TV program, Chinese Calligraphy Conference, was held in Beijing on Wednesday.

The large-scale cultural program is a collaboration between China Media Group (CMG) and the China Calligraphers Association (CCA). CMG President Shen Haixiong and heads of other relevant organizations attended the event.

The seasonal TV program aims to delve deeply into calligraphy culture and showcase the history of Chinese characters and the extensive history of Chinese calligraphy. It is an effort to infuse new energy into this ancient art form through advanced visual presentations and fully demonstrate China's cultural confidence.

"Calligraphy, rooted in Chinese characters, is one of the most iconic art forms in China, embodying the unique aesthetic spirit and cultural connotation of the Chinese nation," said Xue Jijun, a member of CMG's editorial board.

"Chinese calligraphy has a history of over 3,000 years. It carries the important mission of recording history and spreading the excellent traditional Chinese culture. It is the most representative cultural treasure of the Chinese nation and a symbol of the Chinese spirit," said Sun Xiaoyun, president of the CCA.

Sun believes that the program will help carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture and have a positive and long-term impact on people's cultural lives.

The first season of Chinese Calligraphy Conference consists of six episodes. Renowned domestic calligraphers and scholars have been invited to disseminate calligraphy by discussing the work's content, historical background and artistry.

The program will premiere on the CCTV Comprehensive Channel (CCTV-1) at prime time every Friday night starting from June 2 and will be rebroadcast at 8:00 p.m. on the Science and Education Channel (CCTV-10) the following day.

The program will also be launched simultaneously on new media platforms, such as CCTV.com.
