China starts drilling 10,000 m borehole for deep-Earth exploration

China has begun drilling its first borehole of over 10,000 meters for scientific exploration in northeast China's Tarim Basin. With a design depth of 11,100 meters, the borehole is located in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert. It represents a landmark in China's deep-Earth exploration.
