Chinese commerce minister meets Tesla CEO Musk

Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday. They discussed China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation as well as Tesla's development in China, according to the Commerce Ministry.

Wang said the economies of China and the U.S. are deeply interconnected, and both sides should enhance economic and trade dialogue and cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.

Global economic development and human progress require open collaboration in the field of science and technology, he added.

China is actively promoting Chinese modernization and expanding high-level openness, which will create new development opportunities for companies worldwide, including Tesla, Wang said.

According to the minister, the Chinese government will continue to provide efficient and practical support and ensure stable conditions for foreign-funded enterprises to thrive in China in the long term.

Musk agreed that the relationship between the U.S. and China is not a zero-sum game. He expressed gratitude to China for its support and assistance to Tesla's Shanghai factory during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Musk also praised the country's development potential and vitality, expressed confidence in the Chinese market, and conveyed his willingness to deepen cooperation for mutual benefit.
