China sets up first headquarters cluster of intl sci-tech organizations

China's capital city, Beijing, put into use the country's first headquarters cluster for international sci-tech organizations on Wednesday, aimed at supporting the development of such organizations in China.

A ceremony was held at the location of the cluster, with representatives from many organizations participating.

The organizations lately setting up headquarters in Beijing include the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA), the World Robot Cooperation Organization (WRCO) and the International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing (ICIM), among others.

The cluster was also endorsed by the 2023 Zhongguancun Forum as one of the ten major sci-tech achievements.

Members of the organizations told CGTN Digital that setting up headquarters in Beijing makes it more convenient for domestic and international experts to gather in one place.

"Beijing is a perfect location for researchers across the country to come together ... At the same time, [we can] bring international experts to share knowledge, contribute and work in a better way," said Eric Ameca, a member of the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), headquartered in Beijing.

The members also praised China's contribution to the international research community.

"China collaborated a lot, especially with developing countries and the United Nations," said Muhammad Fahad Baqa, a member of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), which is also headquartered in Beijing.

He added that the China Academy of Sciences shared satellite data with less developed countries "for free," which helped researchers in those countries "combat drought, flood and wildfire."

Beijing announced in mid-May that the municipality would build an international center for sci-tech innovations by 2025.
