India's new parliament was inaugurated on May 28, as part of a plan to give a makeover to British colonial-era architecture in the country's capital.
The new parliament complex is the centrepiece of a $2.4 billion project aimed at replacing colonial-era buildings with modern buildings with an Indian identity. A majority of opposition parties boycotted the ceremony saying an inauguration without President Droupadi Murmu taking part was a grave insult to the nation. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government did not think so and went ahead with the function.

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Tokyo on Tuesday, voicing their opposition to Japan's growing military buildup and closer ties with NATO.
They said the country's military expansion attempt runs counter to Japan's pacifist constitution and accused the Japanese government of failing to reflect on its past war crimes.

China launched the Shenzhou-16 space module, which successfully docked with the China Space Station on Tuesday afternoon.
The new team will take over from the Shenzhou-15 crew, marking the second handover since the space station went into orbit. The new crew for the first time includes a civilian taikonaut – payload expert and university professor Gui Haichao.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea said Wednesday a rocket carrying a military reconnaissance satellite it launched earlier in the day failed due to an engine problem and that the country planned to carry out its second launch "as soon as possible.”
The launch triggered emergency alerts and brief evacuation warnings in parts of the Republic of Korea and Japan. They were later withdrawn with no danger or damage was reported.

Indonesia has lifted a 20-year-old ban on sea sand exports, a measure that could help land expansion projects in neighbor Singapore, but with concern voiced by environmentalists about marine habitats.
Reuters reported that,"before the ban, Indonesia was Singapore's major supplier of sea sand for land expansion, shipping more than 53 million tonnes on average per year between 1997 to 2002."
