Lionel Messi will play his last match for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their final game of the Ligue 1 season against Clermont on Saturday, the club's manager Christophe Galtier confirmed at a pre-match press conference on Thursday.

"I had (the) privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football," said Galtier.

"This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes."

The Argentine international joined PSG in the summer of 2021 as a free agent and won the Ligue 1 title twice in a row in 2022 and 2023, as well as the French Super Cup in 2022.

The megastar led Argentina to their third World Cup triumph in December last year in Qatar, pipping France on penalties in the final.

There are reports linking the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's future with clubs in Saudi Arabia and the U.S., as well as his boyhood club Barcelona in La Liga, but Messi has not yet confirmed his decision.
