Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar sees summer tourism boom

Shopping and soaking up the fun of the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar is a highlight of any trip to Urumqi, Xinjiang.

With summer being a peak tourism season in China, the bazaar has seen a rise in visitor numbers, especially this past International Children's Day on June 1 when many kids traveled with their parents to enjoy the performances and local delicacies of the market.

Stretching as large as some six football pitches, the bazaar in Urumqi is home to a wide variety of local goods and distinctive businesses. It is also a place where ethnic music and dance performances are staged, giving visitors an immersive experience of local culture.

According to the bazaar's management, it welcomes on average 20 million visitors a year. In 2022, the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar was listed among 54 state-level tourism and leisure blocks by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
