This year's Shangri-La Dialogue kicked off in Singapore on Friday. The three-day event brings together officials and scholars from around 40 nations, aiming to foster peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who opened today's event with a speech, said dialogue with China is essential to avoiding miscalculations that could lead to conflict. Teng Jianqun, a senior researcher at the China Institute of International Studies, said China will follow its own way to go head for modernization and rejuvenation.
