Some countries outside the region try to stir up trouble in South China Sea for profit: Chinese defense minister
02:05

Some countries outside the region have practiced "navigation hegemony" on the pretext of "freedom of navigation" and try to stir up trouble in the South China Sea for profit, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu said at the 20th Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Sunday.

Li added that tens of thousands of ships from all over the world pass through the South China Sea every year, carrying a total value of $3.5 trillion of global cargo, and there hasn't been word of any of the ships being blocked or their safety threatened.
