Two mountaineers from Hunan Province gave up on reaching the peak of Mount Qomolangma at an altitude of 8,450 meters to help a distressed climber in critical condition. After a four-hour rescue effort, Fan Jiangtao and his fellow member Xie Ruxiang helped evacuate the stranded climber to safety at Camp 4 at an elevation of 7,950 meters. Fan and Xie said they didn't regret giving up the attempt because "saving lives is always the priority over personal pursuit."
