After the 20th Shangri-La Dialogue concluded in Singapore on Sunday, experts from the Chinese delegation hailed China's positive contributions to safeguarding world peace and providing more public security products for the international community with concrete actions. 

"China is here for peace, cooperation and development," they told Chinese and foreign media while elaborating on China's security initiative. 

"The Global Security Initiative (GSI) is a concrete manifestation of building a community with a shared future in terms of international security," He Lei, former vice president of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Academy of Military Sciences, told China Media Group (CMG), adding that it advocates a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept. 

Zhang Chi, an associate professor at the PLA National Defense University, said the root cause of tension in the Taiwan Straits lies in some provocative actions by the U.S. 

The U.S. claims that it wants to achieve military communication with China, but constantly challenges China's bottom line on issues including the South China Sea and the Straits, Zhang told CMG. This way, the political foundation of China-U.S. relations will be shaken, along with creating an intensified trend in the security situation in the region, he said. 

China elaborates on its stance at Shangri-La Dialogue

The speech delivered by Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu on Sunday at the Shangri-La Dialogue was also hailed by many foreign officials and experts, who said they had developed a deeper understanding of China's stance and views on the regional situation, China-U.S. relations and international order through the speech.

"The speech is extremely useful," said former Deputy Foreign Minister of Indonesia Dino Patti Djalal, adding that it enabled him to understand how China views military planning, geopolitical relations with the region and the rest of the world, China-U.S. relations, the Taiwan question and the South China Sea issue.

He expressed his belief that Indonesia will cooperate with China to strengthen the region's security. No Asian country wants to be interfered with by external forces, he told CMG, calling for cooperation and building trust.

"We are very concerned about the South China Sea issue which we hope can have more peace and security. The Chinese delegation has provided information and answers," said Nuno Carvalho dos Santos, director-general of Policy of Defense and International Cooperation of Ministry of Defense in Timor-Leste.

Oh Ei Sun, principal advisor for Malaysia's Pacific Research Center, said the speech highlighted China-proposed GSI, especially the key points about mutual respect for sovereignty and achieving win-win results, which was lauded by many participants.

All countries in Southeast Asia hope that China will play a more active role in the security field, he said, calling for joint efforts to resolve crisis and challenges in and outside the region on the basis of the principle of mutual respect.
