The theme for this year's World Environment Day focuses on solutions to plastic pollution. The UNEP estimates humanity produces more than 430 million tonnes of plastic annually and it is estimated that each person on the planet consumes over 50,000 plastic particles per year. Jiang Nanqing, secretary-general of the Committee of Green, Circular and Inclusive Development of the All-China Environment Federation, says that those chemicals and toxic substances attached to plastics are the main cause of the threats to human health. And there is still no conclusion on the impact of microplastics yet.
