The inauguration ceremony of the National Natural History Museum of China was held in Beijing on Monday, heralding a new stage in the development of China's nature museums. Located in the southern section of the Central Axis of Beijing, the museum was renamed from the Beijing Museum of Natural History, which opened in January 1959.
After decades of development, the museum has made huge achievements in specimen collection and scientific research in the fields of paleontology, animal, plant and anthropology. The collection now contains more than 370,000 pieces, and the number of rare specimens is the first among domestic nature museums.
