International attendees at the just-concluded 20th Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore said the Chinese defense minister's speech helped them gain a deeper understanding of China's position and views on regional affairs and the international order, and expressed hope that China will play a more active role in the security field going forward.
Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu delivered a speech focused on China's new security initiative at a plenary session of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on June 4.
He pledged that China will join hands with other regional countries, keep in mind the big picture and long-term interests, and build the South China Sea into a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation.
