Taiwan's Labor Party strongly condemned a trade agreement between the U.S. and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities signed on June 1, according to a statement released by the Labor Party on Monday.

Regarding the trade deal, the Labor Party said the DPP did not make the negotiation progress public, without providing any specific and detailed comparative explanation of the specific impact of the contents of the agreement on Taiwan's economy and trade.

The DPP authorities lied that the deal was a stepping stone for the region to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, while in fact the deal was another contract which allowed the U.S. to dump farm and livestock products to Taiwan, according to the statement.

The Chinese mainland has expressed strong dissatisfaction and lodged stern representations with the U.S. over the trade agreement, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on June 2.

The spokesperson said that China resolutely opposes any form of official exchanges between the Taiwan region and countries that have diplomatic relations with China, including negotiating and signing any sovereign or official agreements.
