The Hetao irrigation area is located on the northern bank of the Yellow River in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is one of the three largest irrigation areas in the country. With a seven-stage irrigation and drainage system, it covers an area of some 2 million hectares and was cited as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure in 2019.
