Nearly 1,500 women gathered outside the Colorado state capitol in Denver on Monday to demand that Governor Jared Polis ban guns in the state. The main purpose of the protest was to ask Polis to sign an executive order declaring a 30-day state of emergency, suspending the sale of guns during that period and ordering "a total ban on all guns and a comprehensive, mandatory buyback program."

So far this year, the Gun Violence Archive has tallied 276 mass shootings in the U.S. According to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine, firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teenagers in the country.
