China has expressed firm opposition to the UK's deliberate misinterpretation of the relevant Chinese law and discrimination and suppression of Chinese companies, the Chinese embassy in the UK said on Wednesday.

The embassy made the remarks in response to the UK's latest announcement to publish a timeline for the removal of surveillance equipment produced by China.

"We urge the UK side to stop political manipulation and provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for the normal operation of Chinese companies in the UK," the embassy said.

The UK Cabinet Office announced on Tuesday that they will publish the timeline, without naming specific companies. But according to Financial Times, the companies included Dahua and Hikvision, two partly state-owned Chinese firms.

On November 24, 2022, the British government asked departments to stop installing China-related surveillance cameras in sensitive buildings, citing "security risks" concerns.

In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said it "firmly opposed" this decision, adding that some people overstretch "the concept of national security" and are unreasonably suppressing Chinese enterprises.

"[The] Chinese government has always encouraged Chinese enterprises to carry out foreign trade and investment cooperation in accordance with market principles and international rules and on the basis of compliance with local laws," said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
