Roger Ames, the humanities chair professor at Peking University and professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Hawaii, has been working on translating some of the most pivotal works from ancient China. When CGTN's Tian Wei spoke to him recently, he told her that a very important contribution of Confucianism is offering an alternative to the ideology of individualism. The Confucian tradition highlights ecological thinking and interdependence, which are necessary to address the pressing issues of our time because all of our problems can only be resolved through collaboration between people and countries.
