In less than three months, China-Honduras relations have quickly deepened, from establishing diplomatic relations to the first state visit to China by the Honduran president. This rapid change is representative of the change in Latin America's China policy in recent years. The United States has always seen Latin America as its backyard. More and more of them have cut ties with the authorities in the Taiwan region. America's backyard is "on fire," and the United States seems unable to put it out because its threats to Latin America no longer work. China has made it crystal clear: Taiwan is part of China; China must and will be reunified. Between recognizing this fact and sticking with a false illusion, Latin America chose the former.
