The torch relay for the 31st International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games kicked off on Saturday in Beijing.
A flight carrying the flame for the University Games flew to the Chinese capital from Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on June 8.
The flame was lit in January 2021 in Turin, Italy, the host city of the first FISU World University Games in 1959.
The torch relay event is scheduled to run till July 28, with the flame traveling to other cities, including Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province,southwest China's Chongqing Municipality and Yibin in Sichuan Province.
The Games will be held from July 28 to August 8 in Chengdu, the third city on the Chinese mainland to host the biennial event following Beijing in 2001 and Shenzhen in 2011.
