China Movie & TV Night, a special gala of the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), was held on Saturday evening at the China Media Group Convergence Media Cinema in Shanghai.

Hosted by the Shanghai Bureau of CMG, this year's event has launched for the first time "China Movie & TV Night · CMG Recommendation of the Year," to promote the cream of the crop in terms of high-quality domestic film and TV productions. This pays tribute to Chinese film and television professionals in the new era and encourages them to bolster the image of China and its moving picture industry by creating unforgettable film and TV characters.

The inaugural awards fall into nine categories, ranging from annual recommended works and visual effect works to annual recommended directors, actors, and actresses. The Chinese sci-fi blockbuster "The Wandering Earth 2," Zhang Yimou's first foray into the "suspense plus comedy" genre, "Full River Red," the popular TV drama series "Bright Future" and "The Wind Blows From Longxi" all received multiple honorary recommendations on this glamorous night that celebrated the world of light and shadow and Chinese storytelling.

Also in the spotlight were some upcoming productions including the TV Series "City of the City," and an anime series based on "Genshin Impact," an open-world role-playing game developed by miHoYo.

China Movie & TV Night also marks the inauguration of the CMG Convergence Media Cinema, the first theater in the country able to broadcast 4K ultra-high-definition television program signals.

Zhao Jiaming, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanghai Municipal Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Fan Yun, a member of the editorial board of CMG, jointly launched this cutting-edge cinema along with other dignitaries and guests.
