00:57

The last immersed tube installation of a 6,845-meter-long subsea tunnel in the mega Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea bridge was completed on Sunday in south China's Guangdong Province. The E23 tube was successfully joined with its neighbors E22 and E24 at a depth of about 20 meters undersea with the help of eight hydraulic jacks. The tunnel is composed of 32 immersed tubes and one joint that extend 5,035 meters. It is the world's longest and widest undersea steel shell concrete tube tunnel and forms part of the 24-kilometer Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea link project. Upon opening to traffic in 2024, the project will cut the travel time between the two cities from two hours to just 30 minutes.
