China's top sprinter Su Bingtian announced on Weibo, China's Twitter-like social media platform, on Monday that he was withdrawing from all competitions held this year.

The decision ruled him out for this year's World Athletics Championships scheduled for late August as well as the Hangzhou Asian Games a month later. Su, however, has his eyes set on Paris 2024.

"As a 34-year-old sprinter, the accumulated injuries over the years and the decline in physical conditions after the pandemic hampered my preparations this year," reads the post.

"My team has conducted a series of examinations and tests for me and actively sought advice from various sources."

"To prolong my career, I have to give up this year's competitions, take a rest and make adjustments."

"But I will not stop pursuing my dreams. I will actively recover and prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics with my best effort," he added.

Su currently holds the Asian record of 100 meters with 9.83 seconds, which he clocked in the men's semifinal at Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
