"When those in power are resolute in upholding the rule of law, their state will be strong; when they are lax in doing so, their state will thus get weak. So no state can forever stay strong or weak." Chinese people acknowledged the importance of governing according to the law over 2,000 years ago. Today, as part of China's comprehensive framework for law-based governance, educating people about legal issues is part of the country's long-term mission. Beijing's Dashilar has the most distinctive hutong, or alleyway, in the Chinese capital and is also the birthplace of Peking Opera. The area's judicial office has taken a creative approach to spreading the word about the law – using Peking Opera performances to vividly inform residents about their rights and obligations.
