China and Palestine issued a joint statement on the establishment of strategic partnership between the two countries on Wednesday during Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's state visit to China.

Both sides agreed to support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns.

China said it supports the Palestinian people's just cause of restoring their legitimate national rights and establishing an independent and fully sovereign state of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

China vowed support for maintaining the historical status quo of the religious holy sites in Jerusalem, Palestine's full membership in the United Nations as well as Palestine's resumption of peace talks with Israel on the basis of the principle of "land for peace," relevant UN resolutions and the two-state solution.

Palestine pledged firm adherence to the one-China principle and opposed any attempts to interfere in China's internal affairs.

Both sides agreed to promote cooperation in building the Belt and Road Initiative, give full play to the mechanism of the China-Palestine Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, actively promote negotiations on the China-Palestine Free Trade Area, and continue to promote exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education and information.

China will continue to provide humanitarian aid to Palestine and support the implementation of its livelihood and development projects, and to provide personnel training support, and help Palestine strengthen capacity-building.

China also agreed to continue to provide government scholarships and support the integration of the Chinese language into Palestine's education system.

The two sides will actively cooperate to promote the implementation of the outcomes of the first China-Arab States Summit.

The two countries also vowed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in regional and international affairs, and jointly uphold true multilateralism.
