"Still Life" is a work of cinematic realism by Jia Zhangke, who is part of the sixth generation of Chinese film directors. It tells the story of two people from Shanxi searching for their missing spouses at the Three Gorges in Chongqing. One is a man searching for his ex-wife who left him 16 years earlier, while the other is a woman who had lost contact with her husband several days before. On their journey, the audience witnesses the intricacy of the two protagonists and views their plight within the context of the huge wave of migration sparked by the Three Gorges Dam Project. The film won the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 63rd Venice Film Festival in Italy in 2006.
