One audience member who enjoys Indian cinema said: "I watch almost every Indian movie I can find. Many of them are joyful, but this movie put me in a heavy mood."

"It's kind of like a documentary. I'm always impressed by the music in Indian films. This one has both guitar and flute, which are very touching," he added.

The movie's director said: "there are 35 communities in Manipur and there's a lot of conflict among the different communities over land. Everybody is claiming their own land. This is a big issue, so I wanted to do a feature film on this."

"Bringing documentaries into the realm of fiction is also a kind of an experiment for me. I enjoy doing that," he said.

A day earlier, "The Chapel" by Belgian director and writer Dominique Deruddere was aired at the Shanghai Film Art Center. It's a psychological thriller about a young pianist who enters Belgium's world famous Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition. She soon experiences trauma in the chapel where the competition takes place.

"Music is international. Music is for everybody and especially classical music is something that everyday [people] all over the world can enjoy," said the director of "The Chapel."

"This film, hopefully, will travel well all over the world. It would be nice to win something, but if not, that's okay. It's already so great to be here," he added.

Both films were entered into the main competition for the Golden Goblet Awards at the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival.

The 25th Shanghai International Film Festival will feature over 400 films, and more than 100 will be shown at the newly renovated Shanghai Film Art Center. As with every international film festival, there are a wide variety of movies from all over the world to watch. Tickets are already sold out in many cases, including screenings of "The Godfather," "The Last Emperor" and "A City of Sadness."
