Cyclone Biparjoy began its landfall in western India on Thursday evening, a bulletin from the country's weather bureau said.
The storm was packing winds of 125 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 140 kilometers per hour as it began to strike the coast of western Gujarat state at 6:30 p.m. local time (1300 GMT), the Indian Meteorological Department said.
