Often dubbed "the bread of the desert," dates have long been regarded as an energizing staple for people living in arid desert regions.
In the Gaza Strip, the harvest season for dates usually starts in late September and lasts until the end of October. Farmers in Palestine are usually very busy during this period.
Dates are rich in vitamins, minerals, natural sugars, proteins and other nutrients, and are easily stored and transported on long journeys.
