Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Thursday in Moscow and signed a number of documents, including a declaration on deep strategic partnership between Russia and Algeria.
At the invitation of Putin, Tebboune started a three-day state visit to the Federation of Russia on Tuesday.
Noting the relations between Russia and Algeria are of a strategic nature and particular importance, Putin called Algeria a key partner for Russia in the Arab world and in Africa.
Tebboune, in talks with Putin, affirmed the "historical and strong" bilateral relations and said Algeria is "faithful to these relations," according to Algeria Press Service.
He told Putin that Algeria wants to accelerate its accession to the BRICS – an emerging-market group that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The two presidents also exchanged views on the state of affairs in the Middle East and North Africa region.
