South Korean fishermen protest Japan's plan to release nuclear wastewater
00:44

The Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) in Japan has started trial operation of equipment related to the discharge of wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Around 2,000 protesters from over 50 fishing and agriculture groups on Tuesday gathered in front of the Japanese Consulate General in Jeju to condemn the plan and demand its withdrawal. The protesters said the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea will seriously threaten the livelihoods of fishermen and the lives of people. They have also forwarded letters of protest to the Japanese Consulate General in Jeju.
