In 2016, Chinese movie "De Lan" won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Feature Film at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). The film is set in the Tibetan-inhabited areas of Yunnan Province during the 1980s. It follows the journey of a young man surnamed Wang, who is of Han ethnicity, as he enters the Tibetan community and experiences the profound impact of their lifestyle and cultural traditions at that time.
"In 'De Lan,' viewers can discern the director's pursuit of simplicity in aesthetics. The storytelling throughout the film is composed and devoid of manipulative elements such as music and exaggerated camera techniques," remarked film critic He Ming at the 19th SIFF.
