On the increasingly arid grasslands of Inner Mongolia, Tuya's husband, Bateer, loses the use of his legs after being injured digging a well. Tuya shoulders the heavy burden of the family alone, taking care of their children. However, the prolonged labor takes its toll on her spine, leading to the risk of lower limb paralysis. In order to no longer hinder Tuya, Bateer, confined to bed, decides to divorce her. Faced with the harsh realities of life, Tuya reluctantly agrees. However, she insists on a condition for her potential remarriage: the new husband must support Bateer together with her. With this, Tuya embarks on the challenging journey of finding a suitable husband.

The film won the Golden Bear for Best Movie at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival.
