China again urges the U.S. to meet each other halfway, remove obstacles and create conditions, so as to push China-U.S. relations back on the track of stable development, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
In response to a question regarding U.S. officials' low expectations on Secretary of State Antony Blinken's upcoming visit to Beijing at a daily press briefing, Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the ministry, said China-U.S. relations are not a zero-sum game, and both sides should correctly view each other's domestic and foreign policies and strategic intentions.
Wang said the two sides should uphold mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation and find the right way to get along.
"It's not only in line with the benefits of the two peoples, but also widely expected by the international community," he said.
The U.S. sees China as "primary rival" and "the biggest geopolitical challenge," which is a serious misjudgment of China, said Wang.
There is some competition in the field of economy and trade between the two countries, but vicious competition cannot exist, let alone containment and suppression under the guise of competition, depriving China of its legitimate right to development, Wang said.
"This isn't the so-called responsible competition, but an extremely irresponsible hegemonic behavior, which will only push China and the U.S. into confrontation and the world into division," he said.
The spokesperson said China and the U.S. need to develop relations on the basis of mutual respect and equality, respect the differences in history, culture, social system and development path, and care about each other's core interests and major concerns.
China's door to dialogue with the U.S. is always open, and communications between the two countries have never stopped, he said, adding that the point of communication is to resolve each other's concerns, not harm the interests of the other side.
China once again urges the U.S. to implement the positive comments made by President Joe Biden, stop interfering in China's internal affairs and harming China's interests, and stop containing and suppressing China, Wang said.
Regarding Blinken's upcoming visit, Wang said the two sides will have in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common concern.
China will elaborate on its stance and concerns on China-U.S. relations and resolutely safeguard its own interests, he added.
