Kylian Mbappe, top star of Ligue 1's Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), denied the reports that he wants to leave the club at a press conference on Thursday.

L'Equipe reported on Monday that Mbappe sent a letter to PSG to inform the club that he doesn't want to renew his contract, which will end in the summer of 2024. That means if the club doesn't sell him for a fee in the future summer and winter transfer windows, they will see the 24-year-old French superstar leave for free after the 2023-24 season.

Considering how much PSG have invested in Mbappe – the 180 million euros (about $197.1 million) transfer fee to acquire him from Monaco and his nearly 200 million euros of salaries for the eight years so far – letting him go as a free agent in a year will be a really bad business call.

Amid intense speculation over his future, Mbappe decided to clear the air himself during the pre-match press conference for France's UEFA Euro qualifier against Gibraltar. "Am I going to leave PSG? I've already answered, I've said that my objective is to stay at PSG, that's my only option at the moment. I'm ready to come back when preseason resumes. I didn't think a letter killed anyone or that I had offended anyone," he said on Thursday.

Despite Mbappe's comments on Thursday, ESPN reported that the French star told his PSG teammates that he hadn't ruled out the possibility of leaving this summer. Compared to losing him for nothing after the 2023-24 season, the club may listen to a bid of 150 million euros (about $164.2 million) for him, as per the report.

Mbappe has been linked to rumors of his departure from PSG in nearly each of the past three years. Back in 2021, French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly urged him to stay. According to French media, Macron this week said he wanted to convince Mbappe to stay, but Mbappe denied that the president would have any influence on his decision.

"What influence does the president have? On my career today, in 2023, none. He wants me to stay in Paris; my objective is to stay. We're on the same wavelength," Mbappe said.

Real, who have seen many of their key players leave after the 2022-23 season, have been working hard for a quick rebuild. Signing Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of 103 million euros (about $110.3 million) is only the first step. The Spanish giants won't let chance go if they see one to land Mbappe this summer.
