Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, said that the first Russian nuclear warheads have already been delivered to Belarus and the entire batch will be deployed by the end of the year, according to Russian news agency TASS.

He announced in March that Moscow would deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus at Minsk's request.

Putin said that the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons to Belarus would begin immediately after operations to prepare facilities for their storage were completed on July 7 or 8 during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on June 9.

Speaking days ahead of Putin's confirmation at the forum, Lukashenko said his country has started taking delivery of Russian tactical nuclear weapons.
