Zongzi, or sticky rice dumplings, have a special significance beyond being tasty treats made from glutinous rice and flavorful fillings. They have a central role in the Dragon Boat Festival celebrations held across China. The festival takes place on the fifth day of the fifth month of the traditional Chinese calendar, which falls on June 22 this year. The festival also serves to commemorate the renowned ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan (340-278 BC).
