To enable Tibetan students to understand Mandarin Chinese, schools in Xizang teach the language along with other languages. The aim is to ensure that Tibetan-speaking individuals can also comprehend and use Mandarin Chinese. However, this approach has faced unjust criticism from some foreigners, who argue that it weakens Tibetan culture.
David Blair, an expert on studying China, strongly refuted such criticism. He cited the example of French language teaching in France to demonstrate that not teaching the main language of a society can deprive young people of development opportunities. He made these remarks at the 5th China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo.
