People suffering from heatstroke in Japan as the weather is scorching and humid while preparations for the heat are inadequate and electricity prices are rising.

The temperature in Tokyo began to rise drastically on Friday, and reached 32 degrees Celsius on Sunday. As the air is highly humid, people feel the temperature is much higher that it really is, and many describe it like being in a sauna.

The number of people at hospital for heatstroke has increased significantly. On Sunday alone, at least 45 people in Tokyo suffered a  heatstroke and were sent to hospital, according to local media reports.

In the sweltering weather, people turn to air conditioners. However, high electricity bills have made it unaffordable to many low-income families and elderly people, as Japan's seven major power companies, including Tokyo Electric Power Company, have raised household electricity prices this month. Compared with last November, household electricity prices rose by 14 to 40 percent.
