Beijing's efforts in ecological improvement have been embodied in Wenyu River Park, where many people enjoy their leisure time.
The park, located at the junction of Chaoyang, Shunyi and Changping Districts, covers an area of 30 square kilometers. It serves as an important flood-prevention channel and ecological corridor for Beijing.
Urban residents have a chance to grow crops in the park, with rice growing well. Meanwhile, workers are harvesting mature wheat, which is grown as an indicator of soil quality.
Ecological restoration measures, including slope stabilization, soil improvement and forest cultivation, have been adopted at the park. Now the green coverage rate has reached 92.19 percent there.
The improved ecological environment has attracted several black swans here. Besides, the park has also raised ducks and geese.
Good conditions for animals to forage and dwell have been created at the park, with special corridors and artificial resting places established.
A water system in which river water, pooled rainwater and reclaimed water are well synergized has been formed at the park, with lotus, calamus and hornwort growing.
The park is also a ground for people to do jogging and other exercises, with a 2.5-kilometer-long circular track built.
Thanks to Beijing's comprehensive efforts in ecological construction, there have been 1,050 parks in the city, enabling residents to enjoy green environment and natural scenery at any time.
