CGTN

In the second round of central environmental inspections 3,371 people were held accountable for environment-related misconduct, according to China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

The second round of inspection, which lasted from May 2020 to June 2022 and covered 31 provincial-level regions and six state-owned enterprises (SOEs), was divided into six batches. One hundred fifty-eight environmental issues have been found and sent to local governments and related parties for resolution. Those found responsible for environmental problems discovered during inspections have been either disciplined or punished. All the information has been made public.

Central environmental inspections are seen as the weapon in China's fight against soil, air and water pollution, and give environmental officials more power to hold officials accountable for environmental problems.
