Dragon boat competitions are a tradition of the Dragon Boat Festival that can be traced back to ancient China. The Chinese painter Zhang Zeduan (C.1085-1145) created a famous painting named "Competition on the Jinming Pool" that portrayed a scene of a dragon boat competition during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127).
