China established its first laboratory for aviation safety and simulation and released its first self-developed visual system for flight simulators in Zhuhai, south China's Guangdong Province on Tuesday.
The visual system, the world's first new-generation system based on game tech and virtual image display technology, is said to be at an advanced international level and achieved breakthroughs in ultrarealistic simulation engines, high-performance optical imaging systems and other fields, according to a report by the China Media Group (CMG).
Used in pilot training, the full-motion flight simulator consists of a visual system, a simulated cockpit, a motion system, a computer system and an instructor console. The visual system is one of the most critical components, as it recreates the aircraft's flight and flight conditions.

Combined with the motion system, the visual system can help pilots immerse themselves in training, said Li Ming, a captain of China Southern Airlines' A320 model. "The more realistic the environment is, the better training effect and experience will be for the pilots."
The new system provides a clearer and more realistic overall field of view, and the 24-hour light and shadow changes are closer to the real situation, according to a technical staff member working on the project.
The visual system can "rebuild" a city of 2,000 square kilometers in half a day and "build" an airport in three days.
The newly established laboratory will also conduct scientific research in other fields, for example, flight simulation, big data analytics and motion systems.
