China launched a Long March-6 carrier rocket on Tuesday from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province, sending a new experimental satellite into preset orbit.
The satellite, known as Shiyan-25, was launched atop the rocket at 11:18 a.m. Beijing Time.
Developed by China Academy of Space Technology, the satellite will be mainly used to carry out experiments on new Earth observation technologies for areas including land resource surveys, urban planning and disaster prevention and mitigation.
Tuesday's launch marks the 11th flight mission of the Long March-6 carrier rocket, China's new-generation launch vehicle fueled by a mixture of kerosene and liquid oxygen, and the 477th of the Long March carrier rocket series.
