East China's port of Quanzhou was described by the Italian explorer Marco Polo as a "very great and noble city". UNESCO accepted "Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China" as a cultural item on its World Heritage List in 2022. The inscribed item features 22 historical sites and monuments across the city, which was one of the world's largest ports during the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties.
