Officials from northwest China's Yinchuan City pledged a monthlong safety check in the fields, including hazardous chemicals, mines, transports and construction, at a press conference on Thursday after a deadly blast at a restaurant in the city killed more than 30 people a day earlier.

City mayor Tao Shaohua told media at the press conference that the checks will help "to eliminate the risks and hidden danger of all kinds."

A liquefied petroleum gas leak occurred at a barbecue restaurant at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday on a busy street in Xingqing District, killing 31 people.

Verification of the identities of the deceased is underway, and the cause of the blast is under investigation, according to officials at the press conference.

Besides the 31 deaths, the blast also injured seven people. Six of those injured, including one individual in critical condition, have been hospitalized and have stable vital signs, while those with minor injuries were treated and released on Wednesday night.

Public security authorities have taken control of nine individuals, including the restaurant's manager, shareholders and employees. The assets of the nine people have been frozen.

In the next few days, authorities in Yinchuan will go all out to ensure medical treatment, comfort the families of the casualties and strictly supervise the restaurant to fulfill its compensation responsibility.
