Beijing issued a red alert for high temperatures on Friday morning, the most severe tier. The temperature in the city reached 41.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which was the second-highest reading. It is also the first time in Beijing's observation history that the temperature has reached 40 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days. The heatwave is expected to linger, and the air temperature may continue to rise, according to the Beijing Meteorological Service.
